I am reminded of my grandmother's remedy of using your local honey to inoculate yourself against allergies caused by pollen! A tablespoon a day would do the deed. I don't have allergies, but it can't hurt.! Another thing I like about this store is you can buy blocks of glycerin, either clear or milky looking. The latter is for extra moisturizing, I don't know why. You either heat it up and pour into molds for soap, or, like I did, just cut it into hunks. They have lovely candles, lots of things for gifts. .Bring your own container for the local honey, or they sell empty jars or full jars! This store is just GOOD!

How can local honey in multiple flavors available in bulk be wrong? I buy my honey exclusively from SBS. The flavors are great. You can sample beforehand. For those who like chunks of comb honey, they have that too. Personally, I never got used to chewing the comb. It must be kinda like chewing gum.
It's also a neat place to learn about bees and honey. And if you like to make your own beeswax candles, they have supplies. Of course they also have finished candles.
I really didn't read the reviews of this place; however, I wanted to come here for some honey. When I went it, it was really interesting to see so many things here. Fresh honey, Containers, and Bee Supplies. Moreover, the information about honey is all over the place. I didn't know all the interesting stuff about honey. WHen I was there, there was a couple with like 20+ containers for a refill of honey. I looked around but I didn't know how stuff worked so I asked the clerk. She was very very nice in explaining everything. My co-workers were even interested. I was so happy with this place. I ended up buying some local Sacramento honey and was off in a jiffy. Recommended for everyone.
Pros: Service, items, Honey, Cool Building Colors
Cons: Can't think of any.

Very friendly place, and we got there about once a month for "local honey" to help my husband with his allergies. Great resource here in Sac.
Staff is very helpful and informative. Lots of interesting products and gifts. The honey is awesome.

The people are so nice. The honey is so good. I learned more about bees and agriculture in general in 15 minutes here than I did in (too many) years of college.
I like that they have so many different types and let you taste them too. I bought some super-orangey orange honey recently that is by far the best I've ever had.

Five stars for the "honey store" as my family calls it.
1) The coolest wall art downtown.
2) More honey choices than anywhere else, period.
3) 100% local business that just happens to help the state's agriculture.
4) Super friendly Sacramento folk running the place.
5) Great off-beat gift shop - take your out-of-town relatives there and buy them a candle or something.
I don't eat much white sugar - I prefer honey - mostly in my coffee or tea. If you are cheap like me you can buy the large size honey at Costco and get generic honey that saves a couple bucks - but tastes flavorless. Or you can go down to the beekeeper's and pick from a dozen flavors from local fields varying from dark-dark browns to nearly clear.
Think all honey tastes the same? They have a tasting stand for you to try every kind for sale - and you will find honey to be as varied as bread or beer or cheese. Dark rich flavors with hint of the blossoms - every honey distinct from the next.
Aside from Costco, Sacramento Beekeeper's prices beat or match everyone else's. If you have some 1 lb jars at home you can pour your own and save a buck. Or you can be like me and keep six or so jars from SBS and refill them every couple months when you run out.
Very nice local flavor - a Sacramento gem.

I was suffering from the sniffles and general hatred of all plant life that comes with the allergy season when someone told me that a spoonful of local honey will bolster immunity to pollen. That was all I needed to saunter into this awesome little place.
I went on a Saturday morning, and apparently the word was out about the honey/allergy thing, because I heard customers ask for it about four times before I asked for help. I stopped to sample their different types of honey before I filled up on the poor woman's Claritin. The very nice lady told me a tablespoon a day will keep your allergies away, and it has. God love her.
I also got some honey almond soap and a couple different types of honey for honey and peanut butter sandwiches. They're got a crazy assortment of random bee-related stuff, so I'll probably come back in closer to Mother's Day to pick up some nice little gifts. Very helpful staff, very unique store. The word is definitely out, because they were very busy that morning.

It's unanimous! This rates "5 Stars" no matter how one cuts it. Awesome honey. I leased out some dirt I owned to a "Bee Person" for the purpose of a return in honey. Star Thistle was the honey de jour, and it was awesome, so when I heard about this place is was expecting a couple of types of honey. I was way wrong. I walked into the SBS and was totally blown away with all the flavors of honey under one roof. This is a "must-do" for anyone who likes honey. This place is a winner from the word "go"!! It's not cheap, but quality never is.......

After reading all the reviews, I had to check this place out. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I asked someone a whole mess of questions about bees & honey and she cheerfully answered all my questions.
They have around 10 different honeys and you can try all of them. I couldn't taste the difference, since I couldn't get past the sweet flavor. But do go try it out. They also have a batch of local honey which supposedly helps with allergies. I've been taking some every day and I'm still not sure if it helps. But the honey definitely tastes better than your run of the mill honey.
you know how sometimes you walk into a specialty store and you're supposed to already know how things work? like how when you go to zeldas and you should know that you order BEFORE you're seated?
well, this place is nothing like that, and i love it. the people who work there love bees and honey and like talking about both subjects. they also have a good amount of candle and soap making supplies including all kinds of bases, molds, colors and concentrated scents.
the honey sample station is a great touch and worth checking out. my favorites are orange blossom and local. they also have a variety of containers for honey. i walked out with a squeeze bottle full of local honey for $3.75.

Wonderful honey of all different varieties.
You'll be surprised at how many different tastes honey can have.
The people there are always very nice and helpful. You can buy prepackaged jars, or bring your own empties to fill.
There are also lots of beeswax supplies here for crafts and candlemaking.

Educational, inspirational, and just plain smells divine!
You will want to stop by if not solely for the outside mural of honeycomb and bees the size of VW beetles. Once inside the store, you will be enveloped in all things "bee." The lady behind the counter is --appropriately enough -- very sweet, will answer your questions and indulge your curiosity. Did you know that commercial honeys can contain ingredients other than honey? Check your label and see...egads, not corn syrup! That beetles can ravage honey combs? All of this stuff blows the mind.
They sell lots of honey-related products (sticks, honey, jee jaws, etc) and supplies at good prices. You should come by and check it out; you'll bee (tehe, couldn't resist the bad pun) pleasantly surprised. However, don't dawdle as they close on the early side of 5:30.

Heard through the grapevine that this place had the molding beeswax and beeswax crayons (they really are better than your garden variety crayolas) my daughter needed for school- pretty much Waldorf school requirement. I was so pleasently surprised to see all they had to offer . . . lotions, potions, notions, goodies - oh my! It's not just a beekeeping supply place. My daughter really got a kick out of tasting honey, then selecting her jar (the bear shaped one of course) and filling er up. Such cool place.

Awesome place.
I use to get different kinds of local honey for making mead/cyser here. The staff was always beyond nice and helpful. It was so nice, I looked forward to going their to see them.
You really should not be getting any honey from anywhere else but here. It's cheaper, higher quality, and some folks say local honey helps with local allergies.
P.S. You dont have to use/buy her containers, just bring some of your own for the honey. I use to use rubicubes

They have awesome local honey for all of you people suffering from allergy's, not quite as good as the honey at the Santa Fe flea market but still good. They have all the supplies for candles and they offer classes. Oh, and you can get Burt's Bee goodies here too!

I bought all my candlemaking supplies here when I was going through my Make Your Own Candles phase. They have wax molds as well as sheets for rolling your own beeswax candles. They also have beekeeping supplies (hence the name) and yes, they sell fresh varieties of honey.
I love the smell in this store, and they are owned by a local family.

Allergy sufferers listen up... I had read that consuming locally produced honey helps build your immunity to local allergies, so I stopped in the Sacramento Beekeeping Supplies store because they sell locally produced honey. This is a fun store with lots of crafting and candle making supplies, beeswax candles and of course, honey! The system for buying the honey is so easy. First you select a jar. They have different sizes, some glass, some plastic and shaped like a bear. They fill the jar up with honey. That's it! You can bring your jar back in for refills really cheaply. My jar and honey was less than $5 and they were helpful and friendly. It looks like some old couple run the place. The older woman helped me and the older gentleman shuffled his feet and cleaned his glasses a lot. I've tried my local honey in mint tea and coffee and the taste is delicious. The only other honey I can remember having is Sue Bee, and this local stuff is far superior in taste. They told me to use three teaspoons a day for allergies. No problem! They also sold other types of honey if you're interested.

When I was just a wee little hippie child, unschooling my way through my youth, we would come here for all of our candle making supplies and fresh honey. It's an odd niche market but it seems to do well (well enough that it's been around for at least ten years) and does it ever smell amazing inside. If you have any reason to buy anything bee-related or you just want a unique shopping experience, I highly recommend Sac. Beekeeping Supplies.

I'd driven by this place a thousand times and finally decided I had to go in and see what it was all about. (Especially now since they have this amazing crazy new LOOK AT ME I HAVE BEEs ON ME mural).
This place is crazy amazing. I felt like I had walked into a Wes Anderson film. Who knew that an entire store could exist just to sell us bee goods? and who knew that it would be so busy (it was wednesday afternoon and it was packed)?
They have a section of edibles, a section of topicals, a section of beeswax candlemaking, a section of beekeeping supplies. if its bee-related and you can think of it, i bet they have it.
I bought some great local honey (which is supposed to help you overcome allergies) and a bunch of different flavored honey straws.
Updated: April 19, 2006 : i had to change my vote from 4 stars to 5 stars because i went back and the lady was so sweet and there were tons of samples and i just heart heart heart heart heart this place. and what was i thinking with only 4 stars before??? i mean any place where you can overhear half of a conversation that states "oh it's warm out, you have to make sure you don't disturb the queen" is awesome in my book.
